Thought of the Day #1: Passing Along Our Faith At the Dinner Table
Never underestimate the importance of dinnertime discussions. My husband and I often share about our days, politics and faith at the dinner table. With the shutdowns, these conversations are even more common and in depth. Our oldest daughter has started just asking us to talk, if we're quiet. When asked about what, her response is something like "I don't know, whatever y'all talk about. It's interesting." They may gripe or roll their eyes sometimes, but it all sinks in. I think it was President Reagan that said the future of the nation starts around the dinner table. It's a great opportunity to pass along your family values.
"Hear, O Israel! The Lord is our God, the Lord alone! Therefore, you shall love the Lord, your God, with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your strength. Take to heart these words which I enjoin on your today. Drill them into your children. Speak of them at home and abroad, whether you are busy or at rest. Bind them at your wrist as a sign and let them be as a pendant on your forehead. Write them on the doorposts of your houses and on your gates."
