Family Update: Quick Thoughts Post-COVID
This is just a quick brain dump today. Life has been pretty crazy this past week and I will be back to my usual writing at a later date when I am feeling fully myself and have more time. I feel like I have officially earned my griping rights, so I have some thoughts to share about the COVID mess going on right now. But after someone in my household tested positive for it this week, I have some things to say. This is not my normal type of post, but bear with me.
Number one, this is something to take seriously. STAY HOME. Even I was skeptical at first, mostly because of a media system that is hell bent on causing problems these days and the inability to get trustworthy information. I can be my own special brand of stubborn when it comes to politics and media. I can not believe the level of BS in the news as I have gone through this and they need to be held responsible for their actions. I am not going to get political but there was an aid package that should have been passed a long time ago. There is NO excuse for government officials of any stripe to not put people first before politics. Ever. They are there to serve the people not the other way around. 'Nuff said.
Number two, please turn off the media. Listen to the CDC or something actually reliable. One person in our household has severe asthma and was taken down badly by this. The rest of us are handling it pretty okay so far, but not all that are young and healthy do. Even a low grade fever is worth investigating and if you develop shortness of breath, that needs medical care right away. There can also be weird heart issues with this that are not necessarily being reported and it can be volatile, meaning you can seem to be healing and then go down again near the end of it, although we fully expect full recovery in our case. This is not something to mess around with, but nor do I want to see you live in fear. God has cared for us and He is caring for you, too. Panic never helps us make good decisions and hoarding is ridiculous. If you can share or help others, please do. Just be careful and listen to authorities and be at peace.
But furthermore, yes, we are personally dealing with the COVID virus. Yes, it is scary. But, I also care about every single person out there and the sacrifices they are making to not spread this virus right now. There are people giving up really important life moments to care for others and I hope I do not hear one more person say to another who is grieving those losses "well, there are more important things to think about." I hear you. Each and every one of you who have had to make sacrifices and I applaud you for doing so and I am in your corner too! There is never, ever anything that is beyond the sight and care of God and He showed up in this mess. He has cared for even my little unknown desires. He cares about the medical worker and the person dying alone, to the teachers who are doing double duty taking care of students and their own families down to the teen who gave up a prom and the random person who just misses a daily coffee. Maybe we'll tell the whole story when it's over. But please please please support each other no matter how unimportant something may appear to you. This stuff is hard for everyone. And THANK YOU for supporting us, especially by your prayers!
